Last night I took Everett to meet with my boot camp trainer for an assessment on him since his pediatrician always says his BMI is to high he falls in the overweight/obese category. Each year we are told the same thing........keep a food and exercise journal and come back in for 3 month weight checks. So, I went to Kara and said "could you please put him on the scale that I used to calculate how much bone density, muscle (pounds and percent) and fat (pounds and percent) he has so I can tell the doctor when we go since she only calculates it from his height and weight.
Everett did great! He did more sit-ups than I could do and did awesome on his push-ups. Ashton even laid down and threw out 4 push-ups like a pro! Kara was very impressed at how much strength Everett had and she said by looking at him he is very lean and solid.
She then had him go to the chin up bar hanging from the ceiling in her gym. Although he was not able to pull himself all the way up he did a great job pulling up as far as he could and holding there.....again he beat me!!!
So last it was time to take his measurements on the scale. He weights 86.4 pounds, is 54.5 inches tall and 8 years old. She said most 8 year olds can't do half of what he just did! He has 11% body fat and only 10 pounds of the 86.4 is fat. She said that with the muscle he has he will never fall in the "normal" range for the BMI scale she is comparing him too because he is so much stronger than most his age. She said (like we all already know) he is perfect and she wouldn't change anything! She said he already makes healthy food choices, and to just keep an eye on the portion sizes. She told him to be a kid and have fun with life! That swimming is the best exercise for him to do to make him strong, that baseball wouldn't do anything to get him fit but if you like it, have fun with it! Also told him (big winner points with this one) to play video games - boxing, dancing, outdoor adventure.....his response YES!
She said to let the doctor know when we go in that those are his numbers so quit putting him in that category, you can't compare apples to oranges!!
The boys are both getting ready for the big day tomorrow.......OPENING DAY OF BASEBALL!!!
Need to be at the parade line up by 9:20am and the parade starts at 9:45am. Ashton's game will start from 11:00-1:00pm, Everett's game is 1:30-3:30pm and 3:45-5:45pm. YEP! you just read that right.....almost 9 hours at the ball fields without a break. I think I will take a couch, grill, tv, and a little pick me up in my cooler for my sprite (wink wink....) IT'S GONNA BE A LOOOONNNNNGGGG DAY!
